2023年2月，現任美國參議員黛安娜·范斯坦宣布她將不再於2024年競選第六個完整任期。她於2023年9月29日去世，享年90歲。在范斯坦去世時，已有幾位知名候選人宣布競選她的席位，包括聯邦眾議員芭芭拉·李、凱蒂·波特和亞當·希夫。加利福尼亞州州長加文·紐森此前承諾將提名一位黑人女性擔任該職務。[22]

個人生活
