警犬
警犬是为警察机构服务的工作犬，在西方世界时被唤作K-9（英语canine的同音异义语词）。最常用的品种为西德牧羊犬，近年比利时玛连莱犬亦开始被广泛使用。 蓄意伤害或杀害警犬在很多国家已经被列为严重的刑事罪行[1]，刑罚比一般虐待动物为重，甚至等同或接近袭警的罪行。[2]各地的执法部门越来越多为其警犬穿上防弹衣[3][4]及配戴徽章[1][5][6][7]，亦为殉职的警犬举办隆重的追悼会。[7][8][9][10]
历史
[编辑]使用犬只执勤，在中世纪的欧洲已有记载，教区警察会用寻血猎犬追捕歹徒。亨利一世在位期间，英国皇宫设有犬舍，犬只被安排巡逻庭园的工作。
