NGC 2962是一個位於長蛇座的透鏡星系。該星系距離地球大約1.1億光年。該星係由阿爾貝特·馬特於1864年12月10日發現[3]。
星系特徵
[編輯]NGC 2962是一個透鏡星系，擁有兩個旋臂，沒有核球[4]。該星系還有兩個環狀結構，內環的主軸長為0.93角分，外環的主軸長為2.13角分。[5]該星系同時也擁有在HI波段可見的氫盤。[6]
NGC 2962的外環的面亮度比較低。外環由緊密纏繞的旋臂組成，這些旋臂與核球有着微弱的聯繫。在星系明亮的內部區域中幾乎觀測不到任何旋臂結構。[7]外環在紫外波段比內環更亮，且包含了星系總質量的5%-8%。[8]
該星系可能吸積了伴星系的氣體，這導致其核球中重新出現了恆星形成活動。[8]
臨近星系
[編輯]NGC 2962是LGG 178星系群的成員。NGC 2966和UGC 5107也是該星系群的成員。[9][10]NGC 2962和臨近的氣體富有星系SDSS J094056.3+050240.5間有氫橋連接，兩星系相距8角分。[6]
